If you believe that your child is using Generative AI for his academic purpose then you could probably be right. As per credible research, there is growing evidence that nearly 4 out of 10 students are using Gen AI to get help in completing their homework.

As per the report by InternetMatters, nearly 44% of students actively engage with generative AI tools.

Gen AI Tools such as the likes of Perplexitiy and Google Gemini can be of significant help as they are believed to be crawling the web for newer information every now and then.

The research indicates that while teachers use Gen AI to reduce their workloads, there is a growing concern about its usage by students. And the number of students using the AI is only going to increase in the coming months and years as more and more Gen AI tools will emerge in the market.

The Gen AI models ability to understand the intent of prompts enables them to produce high-quality images, essays, poems, and etc in just few seconds.

The Findings

In houshold incomes with more than £80,000 or above, it is found that nearly 45% of children are using Gen AI tools whereas this number drops significantly to 11%

44% of children are actively using Gen AI tools with the majority of kids in age group 13 – 14 bracket using them the most.

39% of students have used Gen AI tools out of curiosity while 36% of them admitted that they used it for the help in completing homework/schoolwork.

The research points out that only 16% of parents are optimistic about the impact of Gen AI on their children whereas 34% have expressed concerns.

60% of parents have not been informed on how the school plans to incoroporate Gen AI tools to impart education to the students.

53% of parents who were aware about Gen AI tools have never spoken to their children about it.

Perception

It is interesting to note that while a considerate percentage of students believe that Gen AI is useful for them, nearly 20% have expressed concerns about their job prospects seeing how powerful Gen AI is.
