While the development in AI has been profilerating at an unimaginable pace, its output generation has been debated for its authenticity vs fabrication ever since the likes of ChatGPT arrived onto the scene.
The GPT model from OpenAI debuted in Nov 2022. The extent of ChatGPT’s shaking up the AI market was such that Google had to call for an emergency meeting.
While there were few limitations about ChatGPT such as its inability to accept images and generate meaningful output from it and the ability to understand context in some cases, one of the reasons where it truly lacked authenticity was not showing the references which were used to gather information for generating the answer.
That however seems to have resolved now. In a move that will place expand more transparency and trust, the output from ChatGPT now mentions citations.

The news of ChatGPT mentioning citations from now on was announced by OpenAI themselves.
