Perplexitiy AI is all set to show Ads on its AI powered search engine. The company announced in its blog post that starting from Q4, its search engine is likely to showcase ads to users while they search.

The Jeff Bezos and Nvidia backed AI powered Search Engine has seen meteoric rise in the last 3 months after its valuation nearly doubled up to $1 billion.

At the time of writing this article, the search engine gets around 56 million users per month as per Similarweb. This number is far from any comparison from dominant players like Google or even Bing. However, it would be right to say that the speed at which AI is evolving, particularly in models like SearchGPT and Perplexitiy, Google may start to seriously worry in the coming months about its revenue model.

Should Google be worried?

Google certainly enjoys the top position when it comes to showing the search results. The search engine has propelled the culture of content creation and the creators do get rewarded with display ads.

Perplexitiy AI has experienced some turbulence in the past as many publishers pointed their article being cited in the search engine without the reference other than a small logo. However, the search engine may have found a way to keep the content creators happy by deciding to not only include the reference in the generated answer but to also share the revenue with them.

Perplexitiy at the moment is freely available with its pro version feature for a subscription fee. However, considering the unofficial but hush hush information that they are seeking rates from advertizers around $50 for 1000 impressions, it seems that the start up may have a long journey before it appeals to them.

While Perplexity is a conversational-style search engine unlike Google, the search engine leader has been satisfying the queries since years by rewarding the content creators happy also.
