Seeing the advancement, there is no doubt that AI will eventually permeate every industry. To forsee the impact of AI on the current eco-system of workforce might be challenging. There are multiple reports that AI will eventually create more jobs, however the young professionals believe that their livelihood is likely to get affected by Artificial Intelligence in the coming years as per the survey.
Economic times reports that they have accessed the survey which was done by Great Learning, a platform which sells upskill courses.
As per the co-founder of the platform, individuals are wary that they may get left behind on the corporate ladder if they do not brush up their skills in the various domains of AI.
Many of these respondents are already seeing AI take over jobs — maybe not their specific job, but they do fear that if they don’t upskill in AI, they are likely to be left redundant in their organisation,” Nair said.
The need for reskilling people in AI was expressed last year also by Accenture where they mentioned that reskilling people to use AI is how industries would be able to use the technology more productively.
As per the survey by Great Learning, nearly 83% of the entry level professionals (1 – 2 years) feel that emerging capabilities of the AI will disrupt their current role.
Nearly 48% of the seniors (with more than 17 years of experience) fear of major disruption in the tech industry due to AI.
With the likes of many generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, tasks like customer interaction, data entry and other non-technical but time-consuming laborious roles may be replaced permanently.
Industries are looking to impart training for using Gen AI tools to departments like marketing, customer service, human resources, inventory and etc.
The impact of AI can be easily understood from Amazon where 500,000 robots have been deployed in the warehouse in order to do human work like sorting and packing. The robot’s efficiency allows it to handle nearly 1000 items an hour.
AI likely to replace Routine Tasks and Processes in coming years
Its no secret that some roles solely require human intervention but no necessary skill, creativity or out of the box thinking. Multiple reports suggest low-level laborious tasks are likely to be replaced in the coming years as AI gets more advanced and flexible.
According to World Economic Forum, jobs such as nurses, social workers, therapists, and teachers are unlikely to be touched by AI as these roles require emotional touch and empathy.
Content marketers have enjoyed a lucrative career when Internet profilfearted however those good days may soon come to an end as more and more Gen AI tools are emerging which can create content, web articles, videos and even the social media posts. However, an AI industry observer believes that the only people in this industry who needs to fear of AI are the ones who specialize in “low-quality content”.
