Ever since the era of Generative AI has started mainly from the arrival of ChatGPT in 2022, there has always been a concern whether it would also be able to generate videos of humans mimicking natural conversation. Not only the technology has arrived but its kind of scary as it can replicate popular figures making statements in an ultra-realistic manner.

If you have come across a video on Youtube seeing some popular figures making extremely unapologetic statements, there is a likelihood that those are deepfakes.

Seeing the rise of such videos which can spread misinformation or defame a well-known celebrity, Youtube has now introduced a Deepfake AI detection tool which would help the creators and well-known public figures to be notified in case someone depicts their face and voice without their permission.

The Google owned company said on a blog post that they will be working on two features. The first one would allow creators, artists and especially musicians to be automatically notified if their voices have been mimicked to generate AI voices.

The second feature will allow all public figures across the industries to detect the AI generated video showing their faces.

Deepfakes have become a big problem in recent months as many AI generated videos and even voices of well-known figures can be seen spreading misinformation and absurd statements are making rounds on Youtube.

An Example of how Deepfake can be ultra-realistic in todays time.

Will it work for the Lesser-known creators and public figures?

Youtube states that its AI system will be able to detect the synthetic voice replication whereas they are working on the AI for Deepfake Detection. Whether both the features will work optimally or not for the lesser known creators and artists is yet to be seen. Youtube told PCMag indirectly that the celebrities falling victim to their Deepfake versions may have to actively request the platform for the removal of their AI created videos.

Deepfakes have become a major problem in the recent years as confirmed by a study in 2023 which reports that there is almost 550% increases in Deepfake videos on the Internet since 2019. The most concerning problem are the pornographic videos where 99% of time it is the women who are targeted with their Deepfake versions.
